Banisteriopsis caapi contains beta-carbolines which act as an
MAO-inhibitor. This means that it stops certain chemicals from being
broken down by the human brain, such as DMT in plants like mimosa
hostilis, psychotria viridis and phalaris arundinacea and tryptamines
in magic mushrooms.
Effects
Banisteriopsis
caapi alone will not give any pleasant or interesting trip. But
combined with mushrooms or DMT it will provide an intense and spiritual
trip. Ourinhos vine is a very powerful strain that is used in most of
the official ceremonies of the Santo Daime, Uniao do vegetal and
Barquinha churches in Brazil. The Trueno variety brings on a
particularly intense purge as well as other physical effects which are
often very overwhelming.
Usage
The leaves of
the plant which grows in South-America are never used; the active piece
is the inside of the bark. There is no standard recipe for ayahuasca
but 30 grams of B. caapi and 30 grams Psychotria viridis is a
reasonable mixture.
Warning
Banisteriopsis
Caapi is an MAO-inhibitor. When you combine it with certain
psychoactive products or food, it can cause headache, sickness, or
worse. It can even be deadly!
