Kratom (Mitragyna speciosa) is indigenous to the rain forests of South East Asia, mainly Thailand and Malaysia.

Effects

Effects come on within five to ten minutes after use, and last for several hours. The effects of mitragynine are local anesthesia and central nervous system depression. Heavy use can result in a prolonged sleep.

Usage of kratom in high dosages may be mildly addictive. Acute side effects include dry mouth, loss of appetite and constipation. Side effects from long term use include anorexia and weight loss, insomnia, and a darkening of the skin, particularly on the cheeks.
