PADUCAH, Ky. (AP) A western Kentucky man has been sentenced to 2½ years in prison for supplying hallucinogenic mushrooms that led to the death of a Paducah teenager as he tried to enter the wrong house.
The Paducah Sun reports McCracken Circuit Judge Craig Clymer sentenced 20-year-old Taylor Thompson on Wednesday, saying the prison time was necessary to send a message that drinking and using drugs have serious consequences.
Thompson pleaded guilty in December to trafficking in a controlled substance, marijuana possession and having drug paraphernalia.
Taylor told police he brought mushrooms to a party in July 2009, ate some himself and gave some to other people.
One of those was 18-year-old Caleb Barnett, who later broke into a neighbor's home, thinking it was his own. The homeowner fatally shot him. Barnett died in surgery at Baptist West Hospital on July 30.

Er, they're not sending a message that drinking is wrong if they didn't also hold someone responsible for the alcohol consumption in the exact same manner. The underage (21 is legal drinking age in the US) kid took two illegal drugs (alcohol and mushrooms) yet only the suppilier of the mushrooms was sentanced. Hmmm... something seems off here.

Man, that is a true shame, it just shows how man is living a life of fear, not love! I hope the young one passed on well! and that prison treats the toher as fair as it can at this point. This is a case of fate not a law being broken! Some things just happen, and judges should know this, if only they weren't only puppets themselves.
Peace to all involved!

Doesn't this more call to a ban on weapons for civil persons in the usa. No other kind of folks is more ridiculous then americans, sorry. Compare even the houses' regular windows and doors built, windows can easiely be opened from outside, same with the sloppy regular american door. How come such stories only develop in the USA, teen is drunk or high, tries to get in wrong home and the guy shoots the teen. Sorry, this sounds already funny as in all the popular american movies. But no, they do not need to step away from this american way of life, they have guns and can shoot any teenager who falsely enters their home and even stand for it. In no European country people are such outreagously stupid and stubborn as they are in the usa, the people do not even want guns, there is no demand, but people are into safer homes itself, got double locks and safe windows that simply are not sliding from top to bottom and are not only locked with a tiny locking device. Hilarious, all I can say...

its a shame isnt it? it can be auegrd that crimes like this that involve stealing from others cause more crimes than drugs or alcohol. the long reach of stealing a family s life-savings could never be put to a ruler, but yeah - this guy is a scumbag

22 mohnts for $50 million? Not bad rate of return. Was all the cash retrieved or has he a stash somewhere. The message is obvious: it's worth trying this sort of crime because, hey, if you get caught it aint so bad.

Are they mkniag him repay the money or does he get to keep it all? Because i'm thinking 11 years in prison, plenty of time to read and if there was 50million at the end of it? Yeah ok i am not cut out for a life of crime either but still.
